Because our fans keep asking...
When is The Bourbon Chase?
The dates for 2013 are October 18-19.
What are the starting times?
Starting times vary according to your team's average pace per mile and other pacing factors. The first teams will begin at 8am on Friday. Additional teams start every 15 minutes until the last teams take off early in the evening.
Where does the race start?
At the Jim Beam Distillery's American Outpost located in Clermont, KY.
How long is the race?
200 miles - give or take a little.
How many legs are there?
There are 36 legs - with each member of your 12 person team running 3 legs a piece.
How long is each leg?
It varies - basically they average around 5.5 miles each...but there is one that only measures barely longer than a 5K and another that stretches out for almost 9 miles. Piece of cake.
How does the race end?
The race will end in downtown Lexington in the shadow of the famous Rupp Arena at Triangle Park.
How many teams are in the race?
Due to limited infrastructure on some of the rural roads and our commitment to maximizing your Kentucky experience, we are limit the number of teams to 250. We feel this allows us to give you that special hospitality for which we Kentuckians are known.
How many people are on a team?
Typically, teams are made up of 12 runners with each team divided into two vans of six runners. There are some hardcore runners who run as Ultra squads consisting of 6 folks. We also suggest that you have a designated driver for each van...someone not running = more fun for all! This is not mandatory, but recommended.
What is the slowest pace a team can run?
Teams must be able to average 10:30 per mile to complete in The Bourbon Chase. You may have individuals that run a slower pace, but the overall average must be at least 10:30 per mile or roughly under 35 hours for the whole route.
What type of vehicles do we need to use?
We strongly suggest large passenger vans for your comfort and the safety of all participants; however, you are welcome to squeeze into your sister-in-laws mini van...just remember, we warned you. Prohibited on the course are: 1) more than 2 vehicles per team; large profile vehicles such as mini buses and RVs; and 3) Limos (sounds cool, but trust us - bad idea!)
What are the prizes?
Safe to say with a race name like "The Bourbon Chase" that bourbon will be on the award stand! In the past, division winners have received a "basket" including all sorts of bourbon goodies, like the finest bourbon each distillery produced - autographed by the master distillers - as well as a beautiful barrel-head announcing your team as Champions!
Is there a finish line celebration?
Yes! The party that awaits your team is a celebration of Kentucky - with live music and local food and drink...and of course including complimentary samples of our world famous bourbon.
